Chopping Roadster Windshield Frames
April 14, 2009
Shortening your roadster windshield frame properly is doable from the home garage without welding. The following steps can apply to ‘26 through ‘36 roadster windshield frames.
Step One: Install your shortened windshield stanchions. Place your windshield frame in the opening. This will give you an idea of how to approach the project.
Step Two: Remove the windshield frame top piece. Using the windshield stanchion hardware, mount the upper windshield frame piece.
Step Three: place the lower portion of the windshield frame in the opening. Resting the lower frame against the upper half.
Step Four: You can now scribe your cut-mark to the lower windshield frame half by using the top half of the windshield frame as your guide. This will ensure that you have the right angle in order to cut and fit the two halves properly.
Step Five: Use a piece of tape to show the angle and material that needs to be cut. Below is a picture of the cut portion of the windshield frame.
Step Six: You can now lay the upper windshield frame portion on top of the lower windshield frame portion. Now you can measure out your new ‘hole’ location. Mark it and drill your hole. Insert the upper portion into the lower portion. Install the stanchion pivot hardware.
This project would take the novice about 45 minutes. It’s that easy.
